Beautician warns eyelash curlers could be damaging your lashes
Whether it be through mascara or extensions, many of us are on the hunt for thicker, longer lashes.
One of the ways we often try to achieve this is through the use of eyelash curlers.
The handy beauty tool gives curled and lifted lashes in an instant and is a staple in beauty bags across the country.
However, one TikTok user has taken to the app to warn people of the damage they cause.
Lash tech @ipsbeauty posted a clip showing uneven lashes that appeared to be cut to different lengths.
‘So today while I was cleansing my client’s lashes, I noticed so many natural lashes that looked like they had been cut, they looked blunt,’ she explained.
‘Do you know why they looked this way?
‘It’s because she uses eyelash curlers! We do not recommend anyone to use eyelash curlers on natural lashes.’
She continued: ‘They’re a quick fix for getting lifted lashes but they are so damaging and literally cut your natural lashes!’

Those in the comments were both surprised and disheartened at the information.
‘Do I already know this and still use one? Yes,’ wrote one user.
‘I’m gonna act like I never saw this,’ said another.
Some claimed that such damage only happens if the eyelash curler is cheap and poor quality.
One follower commented: ‘I’ve been using eyelash curlers for years and this only happens if you use a really bad eyelash curler or you do it incorrectly.’
As all TikTok advice should be met with some healthy skepticism, we asked Saffron Hughes, MUA at falseyelashes.co.uk, for a second opinion on the matter.
‘Lash curlers can remove oils,’ Saffron tells Metro.co.uk. ‘They can also bend them out of shape or completely cut them if your curlers are in a poor state. This is very common as they can take a beating in makeup bags and boxes.
‘It’s also very easy to pull your natural lashes out when curling if you get side-tracked or move your hand suddenly.’
A common hack in the beauty world is heating the curlers prior to use with a hairdryer. Saffron urges people to completely avoid this.
‘Heated curlers, in particular, can really damage natural lashes,’ she explains.
‘They can make them look frazzled if too hot or if your lashes are exposed to the curler for too long. So doing that is a huge no.’
Perhaps just stick to falsies if you’re really craving a lift. Or a really great mascara.
