Kerry Katona ‘heartbroken and mortified’ during nude Celebrity Detox challenge

Kerry Katona has revealed that she felt 'heartbroken and mortified' at her body while filming E4's The Big Celebrity Detox, which began airing last week.

The TV personality, 42, faced her insecurities on the show with a 'mirror challenge' – which prompted the celebrity participants to stand nude in front of a mirror and embrace their natural bodies.

She and Ibiza Weekender star David Potts initially refused to take part in the activity, but eventually, they both relented and joined in.

Admitting that she wasn't in a headspace of acceptance at the time, Kerry said: "I wasn't comfortable then at all, I was heartbroken and mortified of myself.

"It made me quite emotional watching it back. Especially seeing myself upset, I watched it and thought, 'Oh, bless her'. When you look at yourself as a different person in the mirror, you do feel a lot of shame."

Kerry stars in the new reality TV show alongside the likes of Love Island's Toby Aromolaran, former MMA fighter Michael Page and TV presenter Martin Roberts.

Sharing that she is feeling better now than back then, Kerry admitted that she can now comfortably show her body in swimwear without feeling that shame.

She explained: "I’m getting better now and feel less shame – I’m even excited to be wearing a bikini on holiday. I still want to lose two more pounds."

Kerry has been using the Francis Diet to reach her weight goals, an online meal plan which tailors around more exercise, less restriction and more food freedom, created by trainer Scott Francis.

She previously told OK: "I’m currently 13st, the biggest I’ve ever been, so I want to change that. With this diet, you’re responsible for your own actions, so I’ve been prepping all my food."

The star has been documenting her weight loss journey on social media, where she's shared clips of her workouts and progress snaps.

She's been back on the move recently after a few days of being bed bound due to arthritis in her hips.

Writing for her OK! column earlier this month, Kerry explained: "I’ve suffered with the pain for a long time, but it’s been worse over the past few days. It’s like my body knows I have time off work so it shuts down.

"I think it’s because I’m always on the go and running off adrenaline. But it’s been nice to have a bit of a break, despite the pain. And as I write this, I’m preparing to celebrate the coronation weekend. It’s a moment of history."
