Mike Tindall gives insight into royal family WhatsApp group and friendship with Kate

Mike Tindall has shared a rare insight into the royal family as he spoke about the gentle ribbing and cheeky comments that go on in their group WhatsApp conversation.

The 43 year old former rugby player also opened up on his friendship with Kate Middleton, 40, as he joked about the "competitive" mum-of-three in his latest podcast.

The sportsman, who is married to Prince William's cousin and the Queen's eldest granddaughter Zara Tindall, admitted that as soon as he saw the Duchess of Cambridge had attended drills at a rugby training session in Twickenham, he searched for an opportunity to tease her in the chat.

Mike revealed he text England player Ellis Genge straight away, begging for gossip from behind the scenes.

Dad-of-three Mike was hoping there'd be a whole host of things she'd "messed up on" so he could list them in the group in front of the whole family.

The TV personality admitted he wanted to "get to" Kate by pointing out the truth, but sighed in disappointment when he realised she was simply too good.

"He said 'No she was actually pretty good, and she was really good at kicking,' and I was like [sighs]," Mike said on his podcast The Good, the Bad, and the Rugby.

The rugby ace added: "But she has this competitive nature where she has to be good at things."

The Duchess is front and centre of the Royal family news at the moment, as she continues to add to her royal roles.

Last week, the future Queen consort was pictured taking part in an educational school visit alongside Prince Charles and Camilla solo for the first time.

While the trio have conducted many engagements together with the Duke of Cambridge in the past, she had never done so alone before.

And this weekend, the Duchess is set to read a children's book on CBeebies Bedtime Stories.

Continuing to expand her roles in the institution, Kate will be following in her father-in-law's footsteps.

Celebrities such as Tom Hardy and David Tennant have also enjoying taking part on the programme.
