I can’t get over the regret of not telling my parents I loved them before they died – The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: I NEVER told my parents how much I loved them when they were alive and I fear it will haunt me for ever.

I’m a man of 69 and happily married but have always been known as the hard-nosed type.

I now see that I was a horrible teenager, getting in trouble with the police and failing in school.

My parents were lovely and always supported me but I never appreciated them and never said sorry.

DEIDRE SAYS: The world was different back when you (and I) were young.

A stiff upper lip was prized and you never heard family members saying “Love you” the way they do today.

So please forgive yourself.

I doubt your parents told you how much they loved you either, though their behaviour proved it.

What is important is to learn from this.

Tell anyone special in your life now how much they mean to you and how much you love them.
