Kate Middleton bombshell: ‘Strong’ reason Duchess chose to skip royal schooling tradition

Kate Middleton is the Duchess of Cambridge and a mother-of-three. While Prince George, six, and Princess Charlotte, four, are now at school, they do not attend the same institution as any royals before them. An expert revealed the key reason Kate and Prince William skipped on royal schooling tradition.

Although not all royals have attended boarding school, it is a tradition that has been followed by many.

Members of the family including Prince Charles, Prince Edward and Zara Tindall were all educated away from home at Gordonstoun School in Moray, Scotland.

Prince William and Prince Harry both attended the prestigious Eton College, which is an independent boarding school.

Before that, the Duke of Cambridge attended the pre-preparatory Wetherby School and Ludgrove School.

However, Prince William and Kate’s children are currently being educated at Thomas’s Battersea, in London.

The Duke and Duchess seem to have broken away from the usual choices which could be for a very specific reason, Murray Morrison, leading education expert and the founder of Tassomai.com, explained.

The expert explained how younger members of the Royal Family will choose which school to send their children to.

He told Express.co.uk: “Just like any other family choosing a school, whether private or state, royals will pick by looking at the options, considering the quality and style of education that each school offers.

“They will consider other factors like location, friends and family and reputation.”

Despite this, many royals have chosen similar schools and this is something Kate and Prince William decided against.

Murray added: “Princes William and Harry attended Wetherby Prep as children, and this remains an excellent school and would likely have been in the running.

“However, the Cambridge’s chose St Thomas’s Battersea for their children.

“There are a range of other schools that the Royal Family have chosen over recent generations and doubtless the choice has come down to which school offered the best fit for their child.”

The Duchess might also have been swayed in her decision by a specific draw from her own experiences, the expert suggested.

“They will undoubtedly have strong experiences of their own schooling which will have influenced their decisions,” Murray explained.

“Each school has a distinct culture, whether that’s an emphasis on character, academic performance, sport, creativity or other areas of education.

“As a parent, if you found your education coloured, positively or negatively, by these aspects of your own school, that’s likely to be the strongest factor in your choices for your own children.”

The expert revealed the royal couple could have looked to the choices of previous generations to make their decision.

Instead, it seems as though Kate and Prince William opted for the school they thought was right for their children.
