Below Deck has an ever-changing crew with new stewards and stewardesses stepping on board every season. One of the only constants in the Bravo reality series is Captain Lee Rosbach, who has been there from the very start to keep a close eye on his crew. But season nine is going to look a bit different, as Captain Lee isn’t going to be in charge.
The season nine trailer of Below Deck shows Captain Lee telling the crew that someone else was going to take over from him.
This is because of a “condition” that prevented him from taking control once again, but the exact reason isn’t made clear.
Captain Lee will be returning though, as the trailer also later shows him firing someone, although it isn’t revealed who will be getting the chop.
Will it be the new captain that Lee is going to fire, or is it another wild crew member?
Is Captain Lee a real yacht captain?
In short, yes, Lee is actually a yacht captain in real life and is not just “acting” for Below Deck.
Lee has more than two decades of experience in the yachting industry, according to Bravo.
So this is what makes him perfect for the role of captain, since he knows all of the ins and outs of running a successful ship.
But the 71-year-old hasn’t always worked on yachts, as he didn’t realise his love for being on the water until later on in his life.
When he was younger, Lee, who is originally from landlocked Michigan, managed restaurants in Turks & Caicos.
He was invited to serve as a mate on a sailboat delivery by an acquaintance of his in order to get his hands on some extra money.
This was the start of Lee’s love affair with the sea and the yachting industry as a whole.
When he was 35, Lee got his Captain’s license and left the restaurant business for good to carry out his passion.

How are the Below Deck charter guests selected? [CAST]
Since becoming a captain, Lee has been on more than a dozen superyachts.
So there is a very good reason why he has been the captain from the very beginning of Below Deck.
He will be joined once again by Bosun Eddie Lucas when season nine does begin.
But it won’t be Lee’s orders that Eddie is going to have to follow, as it will be Sean Meagher who temporarily takes over.
Sean is said to take yachting “very seriously” so may not be as forgiving when it comes to rule breakers.
He believes the customers should always come first, and was awarded Boat International’s Voyager Award.
Sean will be leading the way when season nine starts on Monday, October 25.
Below Deck is available to watch on Bravo.
