Emma (played by Alexandra Mardell) hasn’t had the easiest time on Coronation Street of late, having recently discovered her boyfriend Curtis Delamere (Sam Retford) has a life-threatening heart condition. However, things could be about to get a whole lot worse for the young Rovers Return barmaid after a fire was started in the flat she shares with a pregnant Alina (Ruxandra Porojnicu) and her boyfriend, Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall). With no one to account for where she was at the time, could the finger of blame be pointed at her as she was asked to move out of the flat at the beginning of Monday’s first instalment of the ITV soap?
With Alina and Tyrone starting their own family and needing room for the mechanic’s daughters, Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby Dobbs (Macy Alabi), to sleep when they stay over, they asked Emma if she would be okay to find somewhere else to live.
In the first episode of the evening, the trio were seen having a conversation in which Tyrone says: “I mean, we do love living with you.
“But with a baby on the way,” he continued but Emma finished his sentence as she replied: “You would like me to move out.”
“Not straight away, of course,” Alina told her best friend, with her boyfriend adding: “I’ve got the girls to think about.
“I need this place to be a home away from home and eventually they’re going to need their own room,” he explained.
“Stop drilling, you’ve struck oil,” Emma told her flatmates, telling them she “completely understood” why they need her to go.
“This is your flat now and Tyrone can’t have Hope and Ruby thinking they’re an afterthought,” the barmaid continued.”
“See, she gets it,” the mechanic told his girlfriend, who seemed worried about asking her best friend to move out.
Emma left the flat as she had to get on with her day but she did look a bit disappointed to be moving out of her home.
“That went better than I expected,” Tyrone remarked but Alina told him she “still felt bad” about asking Emma.

“She seemed totally cool,” the mechanic said to his girlfriend, who replied: “But we’re still asking my only friend to leave.”
“No, that’s not true,” Tyrone replied, adding: “You’ve got Michael [Bailey] and you get on with Kevin [Webster].”
As the episodes transpired, Tyrone got to arranging a get-together with his friends so Alina could get to know them a little better.
However, their plans were almost thrown into disarray when Alina went to the hospital as she was suffering from stomach pains.
When she got the once over from the midwife, the expectant mother and her partner discovered they were having a little boy.
Hope arrived at the couple’s flat when they got back from the hospital and overheard Tyrone saying he had always wanted a boy.
The troublesome youngster hatched a plan to get revenge on the happy couple as she was seen taking a set of keys from them.
When her mother Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) popped out and with her grandmother Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) fast asleep, the schoolgirl was seen leaving the house.
It was not revealed if she did in fact go over to Alina and Tyrone’s flat but shortly after she returned home, smoke was seen billowing out the window of the property situated above the hair salon.
Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) and Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynveor) were the first to notice something was wrong.
Sally mentioned Emma’s name as she said the barmaid wasn’t in the flat after seeing her walking towards town not too long before the fire had started.
Ambulances and fire engines rushed to the scene as they tried to save Alina, who had fallen asleep in bed.
When Tyrone arrived on the scene, having been out in town with his friends, he was told his partner had inhaled a lot of smoke.
In upcoming episodes, Alina will blame herself for the accident, thinking her candles might have caused the blaze.
However, when she discovers the fire was started in the cot for the new baby, she realises someone must have moved her candle.
Tyrone begins to suspect Hope might have started the fire and shares his theories with Fiz, who becomes concerned about her daughter’s behaviour.
If they start to think a lot deeper into who might have lit the flame, they could turn on Emma as they realise she had a motive.
Having been turfed out of the home she has lived in for the past few years, the barmaid might have had cause to get revenge.
This would put her as public enemy number one as with no one to prove her innocence, she would find it almost impossible to get herself out of a very sticky situation.
Will Fiz happily let her take the blame if she discovers it was her daughter who started the fire?
Coronation Street continues Wednesday at 7:30pm on ITV.
