Dancing on Ice’s Joe Swash chokes up as he dedicates skate to his late dad

Joe Swash chokes up on tonight's Dancing on Ice as he dedicated his skate to his late dad.

The 38-year-old explained that his father passed away when he was only 12 and would loved to have shared his experiences with him.

Joe wanted to perform to Simply Red's Stars, which was his mum and dad's favourite song and was played at his funeral.

But he revealed that the song now holds bad memories for his mum, so he wanted to give it back to her by making new ones with his routine.

Joe said: "Unfortunately my dad passed away when I was 12 and this song was played at his funeral. The song changed. Now every time my mum plays it, it brings back bad memories. I want to give it back to her. Give her new memories for the song."

"I'm sort of different to the person I would have been if…," said Joe as he started to choke up.

After pausing, he continued: "I miss my dad very day so much. I’d love to show him so many things I’ve done and experiences I could have shared with him."

While watching Joe training, his mum said his dad would be "so proud" of what he is doing.

After achieving an impressive score of 38, Joe sent out a heartfelt message to his family in the audience.

He said: "That was really difficult. I found it hard watching the VT. I'm so glad. I'm lucky to have Alex, to be here, have the score."

Emotional pro partner Alex, who was close to tears, added: "I just wanted him to have a happy memory. There was a lot of pressure to do that routine. I’m happy he has something to go home with."

Joe's eldest son, Harry, who was in the audience, admitted he was incredibly proud of his dad.

Harry said: "Let me just say Grandad is looking down watching. He's not just smiling, he's crying happy tears."

In a lovely surprise, singer Mick Hucknall wished Joe all the best for his performance and invited his family to come to his next gig as special guests.

Joe also impressed the judges with his first performance as he pulled out all the stops to earn a place in the final.

Hunky Joe sent the audience wild while skating to Rod Stewart classic Do Ya Think I'm Sexy.

After his impressive solo skate, Joe started doing the worm as he turned the heat up on the ice before a dangerous low spin.

Mullet-haired Joe then ripped open his shirt to unleash his toned abs at the end of his sexy performance.

Joe smashed his high score and received 38 from the judges – with John Barrowman asking if he could get another look at Joe's rock hard abs.

The judge said: "Your confidence has grown so much. I didn’t feel nervous when you were skating alone. Mullet man that was amazing. And show me those abs one more time."
