Love Is Blind's Jessica Batten toasted to being Mrs Cuevas before dumping Mark
Love Is Blind’s Jessica Batten broke Mark Cuevas’ heart (and all of ours) when she walked out on him on their wedding day.
In brutal scenes on the Netflix show, she told the personaltrainer that she didn’t want to marry him – in front of all their friends, family and his beloved mum.
It was so, so savage.
And it turns out her decision to break their romance off may have been a spur-of-the-moment choice, as she was toasting to becoming his wife just moments before.
Lifting the lid on what we didn’t see from their wedding, Love Is Blind producer Chris Coelen explained to Metro.co.uk: ‘When Mark said “I do”… we knew all the ups and downs that they had, but we knew they were in a really good place at that point.
‘She was [toasting] about it with her friends, “Hey, here’s to Mrs Cuevas, I’m going to be Mrs Cuevas.”
‘I honestly did not know whether she was going to say“I do” or not, I did not know. Obviously it was incredibly emotionalfor Mark in that moment, heartbreaking. And very difficult for her.’
Jessica undoubtedly became the supervillain of the 10-part series, thanks largely to her love triangle with Mark and Matthew Barnett.
Y’know, when she announced she was in love with Barnett, who then rejected her for Amber Pike, causing her to run back and profess her love for Mark.
Following her stint on the show, she previously claimed that she wanted to quit – but was informed this wasn’t an option.
Branding the experience ‘psychological warfare’, sheexplained to Entertainment Weekly: ‘I definitely had a conversation aboutleaving and I wasn’t able to do that.
‘It was psychological warfare, for sure, because planning awedding is stressful enough, I hear.’
However, Chris revealed this wasn’t true – insisting Jessica was free to do whatever she wanted, while also claiming her exit scenes would have made for great TV.
Well, he’s not wrong.
‘No, nobody tried to quit,’ he continued. ‘We would nevermake somebody do something they don’t want to do.
‘We don’t shy away from anything on this show. If she hadtruly wanted to quit, I will tell you that would have made great TV and wewould have followed it.
‘Because she would’ve had to have gone and told Mark,“Hey, I’m quitting, I’m out.” And that would have been incredible.’
‘She took off her ring, we showed that. She decided to put the ring back on, because I think she felt that she wanted to give the experiment its full due, and she really wanted to try.’
But, despite her claims about the series being tough, theproducer still has a ‘ton of respect’ for Jessica.
‘I think she’s been herself and was as vulnerable as shecould be in the experiment,’ Chris added. ‘She found it to be a difficultexperience for all kinds of reasons, again because I think she felt like shewas going to end up getting married to Barnett. That spun her head.
‘I think she was falling for Mark for real, ultimatelydecided that she was in love with him, he felt like he was in love with her.She loved him regardless of anything.’
Love Is Blind is available to stream on Netflix now.
