Power spin-off shows release date: When will the Power spin-off series start?

Power came to a dramatic end on Starz and Netflix with Ghost’s (played by Omari Hardwick) ex-wife Tasha (Nature Noughton) taking the fall for his murder at the hands of son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr). There were concerns this was the end until the show’s creators announced four more spin-off series ,with each one focussing on a particular character from the original Power series.

When will the Power spin-off series start?

The first spin-off show to be aired will be Power Book II: Ghost which will pick up just 48 hours after the events in the finale.

The last time fans saw Tasha, she was sent to prison for the murder of Ghost while the true murderer, their son Tariq, went off to college to earn his inheritance left to him in Ghost’s will.

An official storyline has not been announced but the new series is expected to jump between what’s happening with both Tasha in jail and Tariq at college.

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, executive producer 50 Cent announced when the first of the spin-offs would be out.

During the interview, 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, said: “Power Book II will be on in the same time slot as Power. In June, it’ll be back on.”

An official release date has not been announced just yet but the show will be on sometime in June at a regular 8pm slot on Starz.

Actress and singer Mary J Blige will also be starring as Monet in Power Book II: Ghost but her connection with the St Patrick family remains unclear.

Talking to EW about Blige’s character, showrunner Courtney Kemp said: “For Mary’s character, we use all the power and presence of the actress to communicate how this is a woman who is remarkable and unique in her abilities.

“She’s as smart, savvy, and strategic as Ghost ever was, but her learning doesn’t come from books.

“We always said Ghost was a bookish kid who read all the time. This woman’s acumen comes from the street.”

Power Book III: Raising Kanan will be the second spin-off show to debut.

Unlike the other series which are going to be about what happens next following the death of Ghost, Raising Kanan is a prequel set in the 90s and will focus on Curtis Jackson’s character Kanan Stark and how he became a drug lord.

Kanan was single-handedly raised by his mother Raq (Patina Miller) and the show will also revolve around his relationship with her growing up.

So far, a release date has not been announced for Raising Kanan and it could be a while as during the interview with Seacrest, Jackson said they were “in the last stages of casting.”

Unfortunately, in terms of the other two spin-off shows, Power Book IV: Influence and Power Book V: Force, it could be a little while longer until they are Starz.

They are both still in the early development stages so it isn’t likely they will be released this year.

Power Book IV: Influence, which will be about Councilman Rashad Tate (Larenz Tate) and his political campaign to become the next New York Governor, is still being written.

But according to Newsweek, the show could be released sometime in early 2021.

There is also no release date yet for Power Book V: Force which will be about Tommy (Joseph Sikora) who decided to leave New York for California following Ghost’s death.

Him and Ghost had a fluctuating friendship over the six series of Power but when he found his former friend was lying in the street after being shot by Tariq, Tommy held him in his arms while he died.

However, as trouble usually follows Tommy wherever he goes, his past in New York is bound to come back to haunt him.

Power season 1 to 6 are available to watch on Netflix.
