Cartel boss Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) and James Valdez (Peter Gadiot) finally took off into the sunset in the bittersweet final season of Queen of the South. With just ten episodes to wrap up the USA Network crime series, some viewers are still confused by some of the show’s vague storylines.

Fans are still finding considerable plot holes in the latest instalment of Queen of the South.

Teresa’s story came to an end on the USA Network this year in suitably explosive fashion.

Unfortunately, the action-packed finale left a large portion of the audience scratching their heads.

With Teresa, James, Pote (Hemky Madera) and Kelly Anne (Molly Burnett) on the run, the gang resorted to desperate measures to leave their life of crime behind them.

The final minutes of the last episode revealed James had managed to fake Teresa’s death to stop Devon Finch (Jamie Hector) and the CIA from breathing down their necks.

However, the specifics of their plan were never fully explained, and some viewers are still unconvinced James managed to persuade his enemies he had shot and killed his business partner.

Now the series has well and truly come to an end, fans have been re-watching the series to relive some of Queen of the South’s best moments.

Sadly, taking a closer look at the series’ storylines has exposed a number of gaping plot holes, especially when it comes to the final season.

One fan recently posted on Reddit when they realised a lot of the key details of season five were either glossed over or left out entirely.

User Dgadj went through some of the biggest shortcomings of each season, and had plenty to criticise when they reached season five.

They wrote: “‘Jeresa’ didn’t get time together, just short metaphorical exchanges.

“So people still don’t get who the girl from Culiacan was that James missed, or his stages of grief.”

James made a shocking return at the end of the fourth season after spending time with the CIA in his extended absence.

Although he was still hung up about an ex-girlfriend and was processing a lot of trauma, fans never really saw what he went through during his time away from Teresa.

It seems their relationship was pushed aside to make way for Pote and Kelly Anne’s blossoming romance, affectionately dubbed ‘Kote’ by this fan.

Their relationship certainly proved a highlight of the last season, but it meant a lot of fans were unconvinced when James seemingly assassinated Teresa in the series finale.

The post continued: “The details [of] how she faked her death are unclear. People finding them out on social media like fake blood, bullets that are blank but not really… sloppy.

“And Jeresa didn’t get 1 min alone after the time jump, when all cards were on the table. Very sloppy.”

A lot of the steps in the plan were actually clarified after the fact, so viewers were unclear if Teresa had been shot by a blank or if James simply aimed elsewhere as the episode aired.

Thankfully, most fans weren’t quite so critical, but it was still a shame for such a highly anticipated series finale to receive such a divided response from the fanbase.

Queen of the South seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix.
