Spoilers: Meena's dark side confirmed in Emmerdale as she takes deadly action
Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) has caused nothing but trouble for Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) since she arrived in Emmerdale.
The young woman showed up in the eponymous village several months ago, and made it clear that she desperately wanted to make amends for what transpired between them in the past.
It was revealed that Meena had destroyed Manpreet’s previous marriage by sleeping with her husband, which was the reason why Manpreet cut her out of her life.
However, with Rishi (Bhasker Patel) having offered her some words of wisdom, Manpreet decided to give her sister another chance.
In spite of this, Meena has continued to manipulate, and with her burgeoning relationship with David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) having gone belly up as a result of Manpreet’s comments, it’s safe to say that Meena is on the warpath.
Speaking about Meena’s plans for revenge, actress Paige Sandhu said: ‘Manpreet had destroyed something really good in Meena’s life by badmouthing her to David: the first good thing that had happened for a long while.’
‘Meena has strong feelings for David and adores him. Because Manpreet has gone out of her way to destroy that relationship, it’s really hurtful. So there is a darker side to Meena.’
Upcoming scenes will see that darker side come to fruition.
A terrified Rishi has driven off the road, and he calls Manpreet to tell her that he doesn’t have his pills. However, Manpreet’s phone is missing, and she becomes concerned about her husband’s whereabouts.
Meena successfully locates Rishi, and saves him, but — after basking in the glory of being a hero — it comes to light that she had staged the whole thing by stealing Manpreet’s phone and Rishi’s pills.
‘She’s got a superficial flirty vibe, then she can be kooky and weird’, said Paige, ‘but then this darker side that’s lingering underneath is really exciting to play too.
‘I definitely feel like the longer we progress with her story, we’re going to see more of this darker side come up and be revealed. I can’t wait, it’s going to be great.
‘If I was an audience member I probably wouldn’t like her too much but I’d enjoy watching her as well.’
Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.
