'The Bachelorette': Tanner Tolbert Thinks Ratings Could Be Down Without Chris Harrison, Says He Questions His Future: 'I’m a CH Fan'
The Bachelorette will look a little different this upcoming season, as host Chris Harrison will not be in his typical role. This comes after he defended former Bachelor contestant Rachael Kirkconnell, whose racially insensitive social media history came to light in past months. Harrison has since apologized, and Emmanuel Acho filled in for him as host of The Bachelor: After the Final Rose. He will now also sit out Katie Thurston’s season of The Bachelorette.
Many Bachelor fans will most likely tune into their favorite show with or without Harrison. Still, former Bachelorette and Bachelor In Paradise contestant Tanner Tolbert thinks ratings could go down due to Harrison’s absence.
Chris Harrison will not host the upcoming season of ‘The Bachelorette’
During an interview with former Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay, Harrison chose to defend Kirkconnell, whose racially insensitive social media posts had recently resurfaced. Harrison pointed out that the posts were from 2018.
The longtime host then received significant backlash for his comments, and ultimately stepped away from the Bachelor franchise.
Acho later filled in for Harrison on The Bachelor: After the Final Rose. ABC has also since named two former Bachelorette stars as co-hosts for the upcoming season of The Bachelorette. The show announced on social media that Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams would share hosting duties.
Harrison’s future with the franchise remains unclear.
Tanner Tolbert thinks ratings could go down this season
Tolbert was previously on Bristowe’s season of The Bachelorette and met his wife, Jade Roper, on Bachelor In Paradise. While recently discussing The Bachelorette with Us Weekly, he said he thinks ratings may be down this season without Harrison in his normal role.
“I’m sure ratings will be down a little bit this year,” Tolbert said. “… Maybe not, but if I had to guess, I think ratings will be down because I think there will be a section of people that [are like], ‘I’m not watching without Chris Harrison.’ Even though I think that’s kind of a silly take because the show is still the show. But it’ll be interesting to see what happens moving forward.”
Saying he thinks ratings may go down, though, doesn’t mean that Tolbert doesn’t have confidence in Adams and Bristowe doing well.
“I think they’ll do a good job,” he said to Us Weekly. “They’re both very well-spoken and bring a lot to the table.”
That being said, Tolbert still wants some sort of positive outcome between the franchise and Harrison.
“I’m a CH fan. I still hope there’s some sort of resolution there just because he is the face of the show,” he added.
He is unsure about Chris Harrison’s future with the ‘Bachelor’ franchise
Tolbert also speculated on whether Harrison will be back with the Bachelor franchise or not. He admitted that he thought Harrison would return at first, but now he’s questioning his future.
“I was like, ‘Oh, he’ll be back for sure; oh, he’ll just take off one season,’ or whatever the case may be,’” Tolbert said. “But I haven’t heard any rumors, and the longer it is in between, the more doubtful I become.”
Thurston’s season of The Bachelorette premieres June 7 on ABC.
