The 11th season of The Walking Dead continues this Sunday on AMC and Disney+. Once the series starts to pick up more steam, showrunner Angela Kang has promised fans she has something extra special in store as Connie (played by Lauren Ridloff) will make her highly anticipated return in a few weeks.

Lauren Ridloff’s Connie will head up a terrifying episode of The Walking Dead when she returns in a few weeks time.

The resourceful deaf survivor was last seen surviving the cave collapse and meeting up with mysterious stranger Virgil (Kevin Carroll) at the end of the last season.

There was sadly no sign of her in last week’s thrilling season 11 premiere, ‘Acheron: Part I’.

It has now been confirmed Connie will return in the sixth episode of the new season, airing in September, titled ‘On the Inside’.

In a recent interview with, showrunner Angela Kang has described her return as a ‘mini horror movie’.

Her comments have certainly sent up red flags in the fanbase, as the increased threat could be a sign Ridloff’s time on the series is coming to an end.

She said: “I am really excited for fans to see Connie’s re-entry into the story.

“We get to do a really fun, kind of little mini horror movie story with her, and Greg Nicotero directed it and did an amazing job.”

Key director and special effects guru Greg Nicotero will return to the helm for this entry, so fans should expect gore galore when Connie is back on screens.

Little is known about the plot of the episode, though it will pick up after her fortuitous meeting with Alexandria’s strange newcomer, Virgil.

Kang continued: “Lauren is amazing and Kevin Carroll who plays Virgil is amazing.

“So I just, I think that it’s just a really fun episode to watch. I’m excited for that one.”

The head writer is already promising big things when Connie and Virgil’s journey through the wilderness picks up again after last year.

As the characters progress and more secrets about the mysterious Commonwealth are unveiled, Kang maintains the series will remain true to its central themes as season 11 continues.

She explained: “There are the scares of course, but there’s a lot of relationship and heart.

“It’s people who have become family who lean on each other and try to figure out the hardest things that they’ve had to go through.

“So I think in that way it’s very, very true to the spirit of the show always.”

Connie and Virgil will presumably both have to learn to trust their new companion to overcome danger and make it out alive in the upcoming episode.

However, with just the two of them facing hordes of the undead and potentially the show’s new human threat, the Reapers, the odds could be stacked against them.

Not to mention Lauren Ridloff’s new gig as the powerful Makkari in Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster Eternals will be keeping her busy.

The flagship Walking Dead series will be coming to an end with its current run, so viewers should prepare for the show’s highest body count yet as episodes roll out.
