Where Love Island one episode wonders are now – Katie Price romance to Hollywood

It doesn’t get more exciting than appearing on Love Island, with the potential for romance, love, fame and fortune awaiting.

What happens to those who barely get any screen-time though?

Imagine getting all the way to the villa only to be booted off before you really got a chance.

It must be infuriating to then see the likes of Amber Gill, Olivia Buckland, Megan Barton-Hanson and more making a huge success of themselves after the cameras stopped rolling.

So what happened to some of the contestants who didn’t really get the chance to indulge in the sun, sea and snogging that Love Island has to offer?

Here’s a look at some of those contestants – some of them have done better than others.

Carl Woods

Carl, 31, from Essex is a car dealer, and is now best known for being the future Mr Katie Price.

The pair began dating in June 2020 after they were set up on a date by a mutual friend, and are now trying for a baby together – it would be Katie’s sixth child.

Carl appeared on Love Island back in 2016, as part of the same series as Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen.

  • Katie Price 'wants face lift, full body lipo and new teeth' in £12k surgery holiday

He was brought in as a surprise on the speed dating task, and never made it into the villa.

At the time he described himself as "charming, confident, game, outrageous and irresistible" adding: "Being a Channing Tatum look-a-like is a bonus to say the least. I get told I look like him a lot."

Maybe if you squint…

Awkwardly for Katie, Carl named her former enemy Jodie Marsh as his “celeb crush”.

He picked her because "she goes to the same tattooist as [him]", adding: "I want a girl that’s able to laugh at herself but equally someone that acts like a girl.

"I don’t want a best mate. A girl that makes the best of herself and is classy. And if she could look like Jodie Marsh that would be amazing."

He went on to appear on ITV2’s Killer Camp in 2018.

Luke White

Luke, 34, also went on the show in the same year as Carl for the speed-dating bombshell.

At the time he was best known for being a singer, after he appeared on the X Factor as part of the band Times Red in 2012, and his sister Lydia Lucy was on The Voice.

He’d only been single for a fortnight when he went on the show.

Since his Love Island failure, Luke has swapped singing for acting and appeared as a bouncer in the Elton John film, Rocketman.

He also features in Dead Ringer, London Kills and a few more titles, however nothing of note recently.

Dead Ringer went on to win Best Independent Film at the National Film Awards in 2019.

Rob Dawe

Rob was another speed dating surprise in 2016, and the 29-year-old was an IT sales manager from Bedfordshire.

Before his attempt at Love Island fame, he was previously crowned Mr Bedfordshire and finished in the top five of Mr England.

He was single for 10 months before appearing on the show.

His time on the show was so short he doesn’t even have a Love Island wiki bio. Savage.

At the time he said: “I’m honest. These guys are going in there and they’re playing a game. I want to be myself, go in there and be brutally honest and stay real to myself.”

He later appeared on Club Rep Wars in 2018 on E4, where the show followed two teams touring across an island getting up to various scandalous activities.

He also appeared in Ibiza Weekender, but as yet none of his reality TV attempts have given him lasting fame.

Malia Arkian

Makeup artist Malia appeared in the second season of Love Island, arriving at the villa on day seven.

She only lasted a day, after she was unceremoniously kicked out of the villa for a row with Kady McDermott.

It was revealed she was given the boot after pushing Kady during a shouting match over a spilled drink.

Last year she told Closer: “Security removed me after an altercation with Kady. I met with the producers, where we watched the footage back and there was a report conducted. I then went to a hotel with my chaperone, where I stayed for 24 hours, with no contact with anyone.

“ITV have the final say on whether you leave, and they decided that I wouldn’t be let back.

"Coming home to the UK was horrible – I was trolled relentlessly, and people threw drinks at me on nights out.

"After one hour of being on TV, I got a reputation as an aggressive and violent person – which just isn’t me at all. I was depressed and didn’t want to leave the house."

Since the show Malia went on to have her first child with her footballer boyfriend Hope Akpan in 2019.

She then tweeted about her experiences with Covid last year.

Sinead Hegarty

Also in 2016 – seriously, did that series have a never-ending supply of potential islanders? – was another task which saw the addition of one new girl after a task.

Katie Salmon was eventually chosen by the lads of the villa to become a permanent islander, but there were three others.

Sinead Hegarty was a club hostess from Northern Ireland but failed to get a place in the villa.

More recently though, she has turned a failed reality show stint into a booming wellness empire.

The blonde beauty teaches her 182,000-strong Instagram following about mental health and a positive mindset.

She has worked with the likes of PrettyLittleThing and MyProtein, launched her own wellness retreats and a book.

The star also collaborated on a line of rings with the brand Tranquility.

Kasey Wynter

Kasey Wynter was one of the other girls who failed to win a place in the villa, after brunette beauty Katie was chosen by the boys.

But she soon made headlines after leaving the villa after she claimed she had bedded Cheryl's ex-husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini.

She claimed at the time that just hours after leaving the villa, she met the French restauranteur at a bar in London and then went to a hotel room together.

"I went with him. Why not?" Kasey told The Sun. "We are both single."

She went on: "We did everything apart from full sex. He was extremely charming.”

Chelsea Kelly

Chelsea Kelly appears to have snubbed any sort of a showbiz life after she failed to make it onto Love Island.

She has grown a respectable following of more than 21,000 on Instagram, though her page is filled with homely snaps with her two sons, Gunner and Grey.

Chelsea welcomed her son Gunner in April this year after he came seven weeks early.

The little one had to stay in the NCU for a little while before he was allowed home.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has an Instagram account for her two-year-old son Grey, with the bio reading that he was "born with a rare bone condition but still loving life".

Marcus Privett

Just as the guys of the 2016 series got to choose a new girl, so did the lucky ladies.

They eventually picked Adam Jukes, but hunk Marcus Privett was one of the other potential options.

According to his Twitter profile, he is now a UK and International DJ, and has won a number of medals in bodybuilding.

He regularly shares selfies and videos of him and his bulging muscles.

Ashley Ienco

Ashley Ienco was another of the potential options for the girls to pick, and while he didn't make it, he did go on to romance one of them.

After the show, Ashley dated Sophie Gradon, before she tragically took her own life.

The Geordie beauty queen died in 2018, but it's clear that she is still firmly on Ashley's mind, as he paid tribute to her on her birthday last year.

"I know you watch over me daily but I just can't believe this is the third birthday you're not with us," he wrote on Instagram, "still now doesn't seem real."

He said: "I would give anything to go back to these times and make it better. Two things are sure, you will always have a place in my heart."

Later, Ashley was confirmed to be dating Married At First Sight Australia star Tamara Joy in 2019.

Their romance didn't last too long, but they enjoyed some time in the tropical setting of Bali together.

The final of the four potential lads was Essex chap Rob Mead, but he appears to have kept quite a low profile since the show.
