Paramount Network’s highly acclaimed western series, Yellowstone, aired its fifth season finale in January and major insights about the cast have been revealed. This time Cole Hauser, who played Rip Wheeler, opened up about starring alongside his on-screen wife Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly) and paid a heartfelt tribute to the actress.

Rip was first introduced to viewers in the first-ever episode of Yellowstone, as one of John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) most loyal ranch hands.

He was willing to show his gratitude and prove himself to John for taking him in, instead of letting him rot in jail as a youngster.

In several flashback scenes, fans learned Rip had killed his father with a frying pan after he murdered his wife and Rip’s younger brother.

After he was discovered sleeping in the hayloft, the sheriff took the youngster to John, who agreed to take him in and adopt him into his family’s Dutton ranch.

The season finale titled ‘Grass on the Streets’ saw Rip and Beth finally say their I do’s after being together since teenagers.

Although Beth kidnapped a priest to make it happen, it appeared as though she was ready to put her abrasiveness aside to live a calm life with Rip and their adopted son, Carter (Finn Little).

In a recent interview with Deadline, Hauser commended his co-star Reilly’s skills and paid a heartfelt tribute to her.

The actor stated: “As far as Kelly and I in our relationship, it’s not just on-screen but off-screen and I feel like I hope she feels the same.

“I’m so blessed to have met her four years ago and to be able to create these two characters together.”

Hauser explained: “When you have this ability to go to set every day and just totally open your heart and allow you to play at your highest level.

“She’s come into play, I’ve come into play and we meet in the middle, we tend to merge and do the best at what this scene could be.

“And that to me is just what I’ve always dreamt of as an actor, and to be able to do that with her, I want to do another five years.”

Rip first had a soft spot for Beth the moment he moved to the Rach back in the ’90s and luckily for him it was mutual.

In the series, the couple went through a number of highs and lows throughout their relationship but always came back to each other.

Rip knew she was the one when he had immense fury and rage at former ranch hand Walker (Ryan Bingham) after he also took a liking to Beth.

However, their tension also spilt over into Ranch work and remained that way until he left for good in season three.

Reilly who was also in the Deadline interview added: “Through the scenes, we have with one another we get to see the character.”

This was evident in the series as Beth who was one of the grittiest characters on the show would completely bring her walls down and be vulnerable with Rip.

As she was often the only woman in a heavily male-dominated environment Beth would be forced to be brash, stubborn and menacing.

Thankfully, fans will get to see more of the couple as Yellowstone was renewed for a fifth season, however, a release date has yet to be revealed.

Yellowstone seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Paramount Network.
