Clarence Avant celebrated being inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with family just weeks before wife was killed

CLARENCE Avant celebrated with his family as he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just weeks before his wife was killed in a horrific robbery.

Nicknamed The Black Godfather, the music legend was honored in the ceremony which was held on October 30 this year.

Clarence’s son Alex wrote on Instagram at the time: “Beautiful moment last night at the @rockhall for my Dad. So so so happy for you. Yes, long overdue but it’s now official.. Love ya!”

During the ceremony, he was honored on video by figures such as Barack Obama and Kamala Harris.

Clarence’s talent was also celebrated in a Netflix documentary, The Black Godfather, which detailed his extensive career which largely started out with his connections to Louis Armstrong.

"Anything that had to do with the rights of people, that tells you everything you needed to know about him," the documentary trailer says of Avant.

"He's just fearless, man. Absolutely fearless."

But tragedy struck on Tuesday night when Clarence’s wife Jacqueline was shot and killed during a robbery at their home.

According to TMZ, the home invasion unfolded at the Trousdale Estates, a high-end neighborhood in Beverly Hills.

Police responded to a home invasion call at 2.30am on Tuesday night; the caller told the dispatcher someone had been shot, the outlet reported.

Jacquline had allegedly been taken to a nearby hospital by the time cops arrived on the scene.

A source close to the family told TMZ that Clarence was home at the time of the incident.

It is unknown at this time if he was hurt.

John Mirisch, a Beverly Hills councilman said: “The Avants have been community members for decades. This is beyond shocking… The police will have every tool at their disposal and every resource to catch the scumbags who did this.”
