Investigator for NYC’s narcotics prosecutor fired gun in drunken brawl: cops
An investigator for the city’s Special Narcotics Prosecutor allegedly fired his gun at a bar during a drunken brawl in Williamsburg, a report says.
Stephen Abreu, 31, is accused of punching a bartender in the face at Bedford Avenue bar, Horses & Divorces, and firing off two shots when a bouncer tackled him, according to the NYPD. Abreu was arrested and charged with assault and reckless endangerment, police said.
Kati Cornell, a spokeswoman for Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor, confirmed to Gothamist that Abreu has been suspended from his job as an investigator, where he has worked for nearly four years. She didn’t return a message from the Post.
Abreu allegedly walked into the bar around 3 a.m., knocking over glasses and arguing with the bartender, according to the report. When a security guard tackled Abreu, the off-duty officer pulled a firearm and shot two times.
The gunfire did not hit anyone but caused property damage, according to police.
