Texas woman nicknamed ‘Gucci’ gets life for sex trafficking teen

There’s nothing “Gucci” about life in prison.

A Texas woman who used the trendy slang term as her nickname on the streets has been sentenced to life behind bars for forcing a 16-year-old runaway into prostitution, according to a report.

Linda Michelle “Gucci” Dooley, 38, received the life sentence for human trafficking Thursday after witnesses testified she posted advertisements extolling the teen’s “services” on a well-known sex-industry website, the Texarkana Gazette reports.

Dooley, who turned down a much more lenient sentence offered by prosecutors, plied the girl with methamphetamine while keeping money from johns who paid as much as $200 to have sex with her, according to a criminal complaint obtained by TXKToday.com. The teen lived with Dooley in a house on Waterman Street in Texarkana, Texas, from September 2018 until March 2019, when she was taken into state custody, TXKToday.com reports.

Prosecutors had called on jurors to hand down the harshest penalty allowed under state law prior to Dooley’s sentencing. She had faced anywhere from five to 99 years or life in prison, the newspaper reports.

“What kind of behavior do you have to engage in to be at the end of the punishment range?” Bowie County First Assistant District Attorney Kelly Crisp asked a jury. “We are there. Her conduct is representative of a person who never again needs to see a free day.”

Jurors in the case agreed — and also fined Dooley $10,000, the maximum amount allowed. She had previously turned down a deal by prosecutors to plead guilty to sexual assault of a child in exchange for a 20-year prison sentence.

Crisp said the jurors heard “outrageous testimony” during Dooley’s trial, including by the 16-year-old victim, who said she set up the sexual encounters the teen had with strangers in her own Texarkana home.

A 38-year-old known sex worker in Texarkana told authorities they could find the victim at Dooley’s house after being shown her picture. Investigators said Dooley posted escort services ads for the teen on skipthegames.com — a “trashy, low-grade escort website,” according to the informant.

The jury also heard from a 24-year-old man, who testified that he was 10 or 11 years old when Dooley sexually assaulted him at her apartment in Hooks, Texas, according to the Texarkana Gazette.

It’s unclear why Dooley was known as “Gucci.” The teen victim testified that she only knew Dooley by that name, the newspaper reports.
