Self-styled prophet, 60, raped church members in 'spiritual baths' and claimed he was being instructed by God

A SELF-confessed prophet raped church-goers as young as nine in "spiritual baths" while claiming he was being instructed by God.

Evil Michael Oluronbi even got four of his young female victims pregnant and took them to have abortions to cover up his sickening abuse.

The 60-year-old, originally from Nigeria, raped church members after persuading them to take part in "spiritual bathing" to "cleanse" them of evil spirits.

Oluronbi would also make his victims drink perfume – with his wife Juliana helping carry out the abuse in their makeshift church at their Birmingham home.

He has now been jailed for 34 years after being convicted of 15 counts of rape, seven counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault.

But Birmingham Crown Court heard how there were at least 88 separate occasions on which he raped his victims.

'FULFILLED INSATIABLE SEXUAL APPETITE'

His wife Juliana, 58, was jailed for 11 years after being found guilty of three counts of aiding and abetting rape after helping arrange some of the terminations.

Both were also ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life.

Sentencing "arrogant" Oluronbi on Friday, Judge Sarah Buckingham said: "You claimed that God was instructing you to conduct holy baths.

"Its real purpose was to fulfil your insatiable sexual appetite.

"The children feared you and this enable you to continue your grip.

"You abused your position of trust – they trusted you like God.

"In my judgement, your offending must be one of the worst cases of sexual abuse of multiple children to come before the courts."

'VICE-LIKE GRIP'

The court was told how Oluronbi set up his own church for around 40 adults and children to carry out the abuse.

He brainwashed the youngsters in believing the sex attacks were a normal part of the religion – and claimed it warded off evil spirits and would improve their school grades.

The monster's youngest victim was just nine when the abuse began, with Oluronbi keeping a "vice-like grip" on the children that continued into adulthood.

When one of the girls left home, the couple helped her get a flat where Oluronbi repeatedly raped her – despite her telling him to leave her alone.

SICKENING ABUSE

Four of the girls fell pregnant but the twisted pair either arranged for a paid abortion or qualified pharmacist Oluronbi would administer the drug himself.

The horrifying abuse, which spanned 20 years, finally came to an end when one of his victims confronted him at home – with the brute claiming the devil made him do it.

He was arrested at Birmingham Airport in May last year, while trying to leave the country for Nigeria with some of his ceremonial belongings and a wad of cash.

Detective Inspector Dave Sproson, from the Public Protection Unit, said: "These were sickening crimes committed against children who had put their trust in Oluronbi and looked up to him.

“I hope these sentences offer some closure to the victims and I would like to thank them for their bravery throughout the trial. I would like to reassure anyone who has been through anything similar that we will investigate and prosecute those responsible."

Police believe there could be more victims and have urged anyone with information to get in touch.
